I graduated from Old Dominion in May 2023 and landed an internship at ChildFund International in June! I joined the Marketing and Communications Team, where my responsibilities included creating social media and blog posts, writing captions, community management, working on the media bank, and more. You can find examples of my work below and detailed information on my tasks.

Who is ChildFund?

Child-focused non-profit organization that reaches millions of children and families contending with poverty through programs to support them to create the conditions children need to thrive. They work with local partner organizations to reach these communities. There are also sponsors who donate to individual children all across the world through their programs. ChildFund's Mission is to Help, promote, and enrich both society and these individuals lives.

As a Marketing and Communications Intern, I have completed various tasks. Please see below for details on each task and their requirements.

Social Media Posts: I was responsible for creating several monthly posts, with mostly creative and editorial control, while receiving input from my manager.

  • I created videos for Reels and Tiktok which I would find videos or pictures for, craft a caption for them, and send over to my manager for feedback and approval.

  • I created captions for posts that would be sent out for a blog. These posts would go to Linked In, Facebook, Twitter (X), and Instagram.

  • I created engaging story posts for ChildFund followers to engage in on Facebook and Instagram.

Blog Posts: Blogs posted on ChildFund's main website.

  • Due to the positive reviews of my posts prior, my manager gave me an opportunity to create my own blog posts! I got to draft and have full creativity over the blog post. Once sent, my manager did her revisions and editing. Scroll to the "My content" section to view all of my Blog Posts that i've created.

Media Bank: The Media Bank is where you can find all videos, blogs, photos, and information related to ChildFund.

  • I revised some captions on the media that were waiting for approval

  • I approved different media's sent into the bank

  • I applied tags to relevant posts the media are related to

  • I also used the media bank for most of my posts that I created

Community Management: This is where social media posts, direct messages, and tags from all ChildFund social media accounts are displayed. Agorapulse is the platform used.

  • Like, retweet/repost, and comment to different people's comments on ChildFunds Channels

  • Respond to DM's and guide individuals to the correct places whether that was;

    • Job information, sponsorship help, aid requests, location questions, partnership requests, unclear questions, and more.

Apps and Websites Used:

Microsoft Office Suite, Agorapulse, Dropbox, Resource space, Canva, Capcut, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), LinkedIn

Final Thoughts

My experience with ChildFund is truly amazing. I not only had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people, but also gained valuable experience in marketing and communications, which was my goal. During my time there, I learned new strategies, tips, and applications that I had not been aware of before. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Alys Mathews, who is not only a great person, but also an exceptional mentor and a source of positivity. Without her helpful feedback and informative nature, I would have been lost. This opportunity has been a true blessing, and I am confident that it will open many doors for me in the future.
